Flotsam and Jetsom - Commissioned
Flotsam and Jetsom, the new debris harvesters from the Cleveland Port Authority, were commissioned today. They will be staffed with a crew by Downtown Cleveland Alliance. This exciting project, funded with a grant from the EPA, began as an idea from Jim White. We congratulate the Port and CEO Will Friedman on their arrival. We are excited to welcome them to the Cuyahoga River and look forward to the improvements by their presence.
Why the names Flotsam and Jetsom? Flotsam is floating wreckage of a ship or its cargo, material or refuse floating on water. Jetsam is part of a ship, its equipment, or its cargo that is purposefully cast overboard or jettisoned to lighten the load in time of distress and that sinks or is washed ashore.
