Reusable Plastic Water Bottles
The Cleveland Rowing Foundation is committed to being environmentally responsible, and is actively encouraging rowers to use only reusable plastic bottles for water. This simple act will significantly reduce the pollution resulting from literally hundreds of single use plastic bottles discarded each week around the boathouse and dock areas. These discarded plastic bottles also pose a significant safety issue, as rowers have stumbled and slipped from stepping on the discarded bottles while carrying shells.
Accordingly, effective Monday, May 9, 2011 single use plastic bottles are banned from Rivergate Park overall, and from the Boathouse and dock areas in particular. Recognizing that some rowers do indeed re-use such single use plastic bottles, the bottle must have the rower’s name on the bottle, and the rower must take the bottle with him/her when departing the Boathouse.
Reusable bottles can be refilled from the drinking fountain next to the restrooms, or in the sinks in the restrooms.
Coaches for each CRF Rowing program will be asked to review and reinforce this policy with their rowers, and to encourage compliance.
Please be environmentally responsible and do your part to keep our river and property clean!
