Professional Background:
Tim Marcovy is an attorney and partner at Willacy LoPresi and Marcovy Law firm. Tim’s practice for the last 30+ years has focused on representing employers in a variety of employment law matters, with an emphasis on workers’ compensation defense. He began his career as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Geauga County, Ohio. Tim is admitted to practice before the Ohio Bar, the US District Court for the Northern District of Ohio; the US Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the US Supreme Court.
Education:
Tim received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and his Law degree from Case Western Reserve University.
Rowing Background:
Tim began his rowing career at Columbia University, rowing for the heavyweight crew from 1970 through 1972. Tim returned to the sport in 1988 rowing in the Cleveland Rowing Federation’s Flats Racing League. In 1989 Tim and several others formed the Western Reserve Rowing Association. Tim has competed and medaled as a rower and a sculler in over 200 regattas, including nine Masters' Nationals Regattas and 13 Head of the Charles regattas.
Tim has an extensive coaching background coaching for High School, Collegiate and Adult rowers in Cleveland since 1995. Tim coached the St. Ignatius’ boys sculling program from 1997 to 2000. Tim served as the Head coach for Case Western Reserve University Crew for 11 years, coaching both men’s and women’s programs during his tenure. Throughout this time Tim has taught adult sculling and has coached many successful WRRA Summer Rowing League teams.
Tim has been an officer and Trustee of the WRRA, and a Director of the CRF. He headed the CRF’s Safety Committee from 1995 - 2006. He has been on the Board of Directors of the CWRU Spartan Alumni Rowing Association since the organization's inception.
In 2011 Tim was inducted in the CRF Hall of Fame for his significant contributions to the Cleveland rowing community as a coach, board member and rowing volunteer. Tim is also a 1995 recipient of the CRF Burning Blade award.
Tim and his wife Mary have two children, who are also rowers. Tim’s daughter rowed for Beaumont High School and is a former WRRA rowing coach. His son is also an accomplished oarsman, he was an IRA medal-winning oarsman for Columbia University, competed and won the 2008 Boat Race for Oxford University, he has coached adult and junior rowers, and he is currently a member of the US National Team.
