Dear Member Organization Presidents and Head Coaches,
hope you had a joyous Thanksgiving. With the year coming to a close and our boats racked until next spring, I wanted to bring you up to date on a few pieces of Cleveland Rowing Foundation business that affect us all:
The new locker rooms and bathrooms are finished – and they look great! Our contractor did a wonderful job. Now we need to buckle down and finish raising the money for this important amenity. As you know, we have been offered a very generous challenge grant – an anonymous donor will match the next $20,000 we raise before year’s end – and we need to seize the opportunity. Please encourage your members and supporters to make a year-end contribution to this capital campaign.
Over the coming month, the CRF will be developing policies and a fee schedule for locker rentals. An income stream is necessary because the new facilities will require additional maintenance and supplies. Our goal is to design a plan that is reasonable, sufficient and fair to everyone’s needs.
After lengthy negotiations, we have reached an agreement with the Norfolk Southern Railway to purchase a 1.5-acre piece of property that we have been leasing since we moved to Rivergate Park six years ago. Our goal is to close the sale by mid-December. By securing this piece of property — which includes the entirety of our parking lot— we will have complete site control and will be able to maintain the recreational integrity of Rivergate at a time of intense developer interest in the Flats.
The lighting work in the Sculling Building is complete. I think you’ll agree it’s another major improvement to our campus.
CRF’s Annual Meeting is scheduled for January 14 at the Flat Iron. Please come, and encourage your members to attend, too. We hope to make some important announcements at the meeting regarding coaching, safety testing and volunteer opportunities with the CMSD Rows program.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me, Kirk or any member of the CRF Board.
