The minutes from the 3-28-2000 meeting were approved. One exception, Pat Monroe clarified that the revenue numbers quoted for the Youth Rowing Programs were just estimates.
Dave Anderson reported that we are still trying to contact the new river navigator, Steve Davis. We are still interested in getting him to attend our meeting in the very near future.
Future sites for a new boathouse are still being investigated. Discussions with parties discussed in last months minutes are still occurring.
Pat Monroe distributed fliers about the Youth Summer Rowing Program. The affiliates were given the fliers and asked to distribute them to all interested parties. The flier is officially included in the minutes if anyone is interested in looking at it. Contact Jeff Jensen.
2-3 Assistant Coaches are lined up. Pat is still looking for a head coach. If anyone knows of any potential head coaches please contact Pat.
The program will be considered successful if we get 24 rowers. We might look into providing a rowing day for neighborhood kids around Ignatius.
Jeff Jensen and Renee Trivisonno are still collecting articles for the newsletter. All affiliates were asked to submit an article to Jeff or Renee by the second week in May. We are still hoping to get the first newsletter out to the masses by late May, early June.
Last month’s minutes were posted on the website and all future minutes will be posted there for anyone to review. The new website address is www.wrra.cc.
Tim Marcovy reported one minor incident. A sculler took a dip into the river. Unplanned of course. No injuries occurred.
Four new safety certifications were given to members for level 2 and level 3. Last weekend 8 WRRA members took took the level 1 safety test.
Tim reiterated the no boat can go off the dock without at least one person being level 1 certified.
Big boats are creating bigger wakes than normal and that has caused some damage to the docks. One of the dock pins came loose and damaged one of Cases’ boats.
Dave Anderson, Interlake Shipping, has volunteered to take some interested members on a tugboat tour of the river. This will give us a clearer understanding of what the vantage points look like from a bigger vessel.
Doug is finished with school this week. He will get back in the swing of things and be back down at the boathouse to fix anything needing repair.
Dave Gilbert of the Cleveland Sports Commission and Tim Marcovy are meeting this week to discuss the Ivy League sprint regatta in Cleveland May 2001.
Dave Werner discussed the Head of the Cuyahoga, (HOTC). A contract has been signed with Nautica. $15,000 is the minimum budget amount to hold a quality regatta.
Hermies Fund Raising is being talked to to see what kind of professional fund raising they can do for us. The most assistance needed is in raising funds, posting race times, and crew registration.
Volunteers from all member organizations are needed to make the HOTC as successful this year as it was last year. Dave will go to the next WRRA meeting to communicate to the members about the regatta and to recruit as many volunteers as possible.
LOI, (Letters of Instruction) about the regatta will be distributed to all the regatta chairman.
They have participated in one regatta, the novice four medaled. They are going to the Culver and Midwest
Prepping for the Governor’s Cup. School is officially out for them the end of next week.
Prepping for the Govenor’s Cup and the Dad Val’s on the Schukill in Philadelphia. There is a concern because the varsity officers for the club have stepped down to concentrate on competitive rowing. New officers have taken over. Its going to take them time to get up to speed.
They did ok at the Columbus regatta. They have 75 rowers. They plan on competing at Culver, Pittsburgh, Midwest, and Erie regattas.
Did well at the Columbus Regatta. They are also planning on competing at the Ohio Govenors Cup, Midwest, and Erie regattas.
The competitive crews have started practicing. They have two 8’s and a 4.
SRL is right on target and the format change is looking very good. They are still looking for coaches. Any interested parties should contact Misty Matin.
One of the other benefits of WRRA full membership is they have sculling lessons for any interested parties. Tim Marcovy is one of the instructors.
Don Saer has reported that all locks and codes have been changed. If you don’t have the new numbers you need to go to your safety officer.
The Standard Operating Policy manual has been published. It is on the website and on the wall of the boathouse. Please take the time to read the manual.
Some vandalism is occurring at nights. There has been some minor damage to the trailers. If you are down in the area in the evening stop in and do some policing. But be careful if you are confronting individuals that should not be around the boathouses.
Will investigate again at possibly getting the front gate locked. The bottom line is if the boathouse isn’t open, people shouldn’t be down there.
Harry Fisher was not at the meeting but reported that a full financial report will be given at the next meeting. All the bills are paid. We are in the black again. The clubs need to send in their assessments to Harry Fisher.
CPR training. Everyone should get CPR training. We will look into getting a CPR training class to be held at the boathouse.
The meeting attendance has improved please keep it up.
Katie Shilton from Oberlin College came to the meeting wanting to get as much information about the WRRF and the WRRA. They are seriously investigating approaching Oberlin officials about creating a club for all interested rowers. We invited her to come down to the boathouse for a tour.
The meeting adjourned at 7:15.
The next meeting is May 29th at 6 o’clock.
Minutes are respectfully submitted by:
Jeff Jensen, WRRF Secretary
