  1. Approval of Minutes

The minutes from the 4-25-2000 meeting were approved.

  1. Reports from Committees

Kathryn has had discussions with Kelly Jordan from QuadPro Management Company. The Scaravelli property is still being pursued, and QuadPro is still interested in having rowing be a cornerstone of their development. Kathryn has given Kelly Jordan the number of the Cuyahoga River Navigator, Steve Davis, and they (QuadPro) are not working on contacting him on our and their behalf.

Pat Monroe has distributed over 200 fliers about the Youth Summer Rowing Program. The affiliates were given the fliers and asked to distribute them to all interested parties. He also distributed about 120 informational packets. The deadline to sign up is 6-09-2000. No responses yet but a good sign-up is anticipated. He also has coaches lined up and Pat believes everything is good to go.

Pat still needs to get the checkbook for the program squared away. Kathryn was going to assist Pat to make that happen. (Note bene: this was resolved with our bank, Fifth Third, on 6/1/00. Pat now has signature privileges.)

Renee Trivisonno is still collecting articles for the newsletter. We are still hoping to get the first newsletter out to the masses in early June. It’s moving a little slower than anticipated. Jeff Jensen will contact Renee in the next few week to see if there is anything that we may be able to put on the website prior to the newsletter being published.

Last month’s minutes were posted on the website and all future minutes will be posted there for anyone to review. The new website address is www.wrra.cc.

Tim Marcovy reported two minor incidents. Two scullers took dips into the river. No injuries occurred.

The larger boats coming down the river are causing bigger wakes than normal. It is causing some damage to the dock.

There is a concern that some of the SRL coaches may not fully understand the safety zones on the river. Tim is planning to go out on the river with the coaches to show them first hand where the safety zones are located.

Doug Rathburn is in England and won’t be back until 6-10-2000. He has been fixing some things and there hasn’t been anything that is in need of serious repair.

Dave Werner discussed the Head of the Cuyahoga (HOTC). Things appear to be progressing smoothly. Regatta packets will be mailed to the committee chairpersons in the next few weeks, followed by a meeting.

Dave requested a comprehensive mailing list to get the word out about the regatta. Tim Marcovy and Dave are working on getting all the necessary licenses for the weekend.

It appears the fund raising efforts may surpass what occurred last year.

  1. Reports from Member Organizations

The team finished for the year. They performed well at the Mercyhurst Regatta. At the Erie Regatta the Varsity 8 and Novice 4 placed second.

There have been some coaching changes. Caroline Hoepp is the new head coach. They are seriously considering merging with Bay Village and forming a coed junior team for interested high school students.

Out of school--no official report. Kristen Andrews has requested that the foundation take a look at their Spring assessment to see if it could be reduced because the number of CWRU rowers dropped from 30 to 12. A motion was made to reduce their spring assessment and it was approved. Kathryn and Harry Fisher are going to talk about what the monetary reduction should be.

On summer break. Some alumni came back recently. And they got together with current crew members and had some good times.

The Wildcats won the Midwest Scholastic and Mercyhurst Regattas. They had a terrific year. They may send a four and an eight to the Canadian Henley. Rowing is finished for the year, and they are getting a new single.

Participated in the Midwest Scholastic regatta. The girls had a float in the Shaker Memorial Day Parade. It was a great way to get the word out that there is rowing in the Greater Cleveland Area!!

SRL began last week they have roughly 300 rowers this year. Things appear to be going very well. They had a terrific turnout for coxswain training.

The competitive crew did well in Toledo. They won a gold and a silver medal.

The new WRRA coach is starting 5-30-2000. He was hired specifically for the competitive crews and for sculling by appointment. He was not brought on board for the SRL. If anyone has any questions regarding his specific duties and responsibilities they should contact Caroline Hoepp.

  1. Boathouse Operations Report

Don Saer, Kathryn wants to personally thank you for the safe flight back from San Francisco. She has not had a better, smoother red eye in her life!!!!!!!

Dave Anderson has an empty file cabinet that Don had requested a couple meetings ago.

  1. Treasurer’s Report

Harry Fisher presented the financial statements and the details are included in the minutes. Anyone wanting specifics can contact Harry or Jeff Jensen.

Harry requested the names of the contact person for each member organization who should receive assessments for this year. He would like them by the next meeting. Jeff will add it to the agenda for the next meeting.

The February, March, and April bank statements have been reconciled.

Harry is meeting with the accountant to try and figure out what the IRS penalty is all about. From what can be determined right now it appears it may be from 1997 and 1998. But that has not been verified yet. Along with Tim Marcovy, Harry and Jeff (the accountant) will be talking to the IRS to see what can be done.

  1. Old Business

Head of the Charles entry forms will be posted at the boathouse.

The meeting attendance has improved. Please keep it up.

  1. New Business

Nothing formally new to report. Kathryn is going to be attending a sculling camp next week in Vermont. She is going with a number of other WRRA members.

  1. Adjournment

The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.

The next meeting is June 27th at 5:30. Please remember the new meeting time (5:30) for the next four months!!!

Minutes are respectfully submitted by:

Jeff Jensen, WRRF Secretary
