The meeting was called to order at 6:15 p.m.

The minutes from the September meeting were approved with minor spelling and grammar changes.

  1. Reports from Committees

Kathryn, Toni Quagliata & Don Saer had a meeting with Greg Collins, the property manager of the Forest City Land Group. It was very successful. It appears promising that we could be getting a 3-year lease with two, 1-year extensions for our current side. There was talk of getting more building space and more parking. We agreed that we should invite him down to see us in action. Peter Gozar mentioned the need for a locker and shower area. All agreed that is desperately needed, and Greg sees this need as well. Further information will be forthcoming.

No report (i.e., summer is over)

Peter Gozar and Evan Halprin have graciously volunteered to champion some form of communications for WRRF (Peter championing a written newsletter; Evan a potential website and e-group). They are also establishing a WRRF website and linking it to all the other local rowing websites including WRRA. We need to do much more in terms of getting our name out there and establishing ourselves within the community. Peter would also like to poll all the SRL members of their experiences and get feedback from them.

Tim Marcovy reported numerous complaints regarding wakes from our launches. There was a 14-hour lock down of all launches. There was a launch driver meeting of all operators. It was very successful and quite timely and very well received.

Tim reminded everyone that all boats need to use bow strobe lights at dawn and dusk.

Ken Monaco was unaware about the radio shortage but he will look into it.

The Agnar Pytte needs to be repaired. WRRA is responsible for fixing it. It will cost between $1200-$1500 to repair. We can fix it locally or send it back to the manufacturer to repair. This may also be insured. We will check to see if it is covered. Leonard and Cantrell is our equipment insurer.

All other major repairs are complete.

HOTC- Some medals still need to be mailed out. That will occur this week. There are some concerns about next years’ Regatta. If we can’t get river closure, the regatta may not happen. Regatta officials will start working on it right now. A report on Regatta proceeds will take place at the next meeting.

  1. Reports from Member Organizations

Fall program is finished, but they are sending some scullers to the Speakmon At the Head of the Charles, the Youth 8 was third among high schools and 12th out of 44 crews.

They are competing at the Head of the Eagle. The Hammer this year is at John Carroll, 2-17-2001. They will be investigating the liability insurance for the event.

They did ok at the Head of the Eagle. They are going to the Speakmon

The fall rowing league has finished. They have full member boats practicing Mondays and Wednesdays.

2 sweep crews and 4 scullers went to the Head of the Charles. No medals, but they competed admirably. The next WRRA meeting should be interesting because there will be some intense discussions regarding the boat purchase plan. The meeting is 11-6-00 at the Wine Bar.

Dan DiAngelo reported they had a respectable showing at the Head of the Eagle. They are going to the Elkhart Regatta. They need to get their assessment to Harry Fisher. There was some question as to the exact amount, once CSU passes their first semester assessment of $500. The current WRRF assessment is $105, and may increase because of the new launch maintenance assessment. This is a yearly, per-rower assessment.

  1. Boathouse Operations Report

The garage doors need to be fixed. Ken Monaco will take care of repairing them and will let us know how much it will cost.

  1. Treasurer’s Report

Harry was not present, but had submitted a 3-pager to Kathryn to be handed out. The report will be on file. If anyone needs a copy contact Jeff Jensen or Harry Fisher.

  1. Old Business

2001 WRRF Officers. Kathryn Kaczmarski has offered to remain for another year as the President of the Foundation. Discussions are beginning to happen regarding the other officers. Tim Marcovy mentioned that there are no restrictions regarding officers. Anyone interested in rowing in Cleveland can be an officer. Any interested people should come to the next meeting or call Kathryn to express your interest.

  1. New Business

The Burning Blade Award. Russ Eckels was the recipient last year. The award is for service and contribution to the sport of rowing in the community as a whole. Anyone interested in nominating anyone should do so by submitting their written nominations to Kathryn. The winner of the award will be announced at the annual meeting.

  1. Announcements

The boathouse will not officially close this year like last. But it is contingent as always on the weather.

  1. Adjournment

The meeting adjourned just past 7:30 p.m. The next meeting is Tuesday November 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the Market St. Wine Bar.

Minutes respectfully submitted by:

Jeff Jensen, WRRF Secretary
