Head Coach, River Experience Summer camp

About Us

The Cleveland Rowing Foundation (CRF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to support, facilitate and promote the sport of rowing and other recreational activities at Rivergate Park by partnering with member organizations and the community.  CRF owns 4.5 acres of land on the Rivergate Peninsula, as well as 19,000 square foot and 6500 square feet buildings housing over 200 rowing shells.  Composed of seven Member Organizations, CRF serves over 1,500 high school, collegiate, and adult rowers.

JOB SUMMARY

Provide coaching for the rowing portion of 4-week River Experience Summer Camp. Run in conjunction with Open Doors Academy (ODA) summer programming, camps include 2 sessions each day for students to experience the sport of rowing. This position will be paid as a 1099 Contractor.

 

The camp will be held Monday through Thursday:
 

  • June 10 - 13, 2024

  • June 24 - 27, 2024

  • July 15 - 18, 2024

  • July 22 - 25, 2024

Responsibilities
 

Overall responsibility for camp planning and execution, partnering with CRF President, ODA staff, and/or other CRF Board member(s) as needed.

Prior to the start of camp:

  • Recruit and manage Assistant Coach and coxswain(s)

  • Recruit and manage volunteers as needed

  • Work with Assistant Coach and coxswain(s) to establish daily itinerary both on and off the water.

  • Run training day for ODA staff prior to camp (June 7th)

During the camp:

  • Supervise all camp attendees, Assistant Coach and coxswain(s), maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all participants to learn and grow. Addressing as needed and escalating to the ED & CRF President (as needed) immediately if there are observations of activities that do not support those activities.

  • Facilitate erg warm up sessions, on water warmups, and learn to row drills

  • Facilitate reviewing proper boat and oar handling with camp attendees.

  • Facilitate reviewing boathouse and property tour with attendees.

  • Facilitate Safety Review for attendees and ensure campers properly use PFDs.

  • Maintain all required equipment on the Launch.

Qualifications

  • Coaching experience, CQL certified

  • Completed SafeSport training

  • Experience teaching, coaching or working with youth from diverse backgrounds

  • Experience working with participants with different levels of comfort with water sports

  • Strong planning and organizational skills

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with partner organizations

  • Ability to recruit and manage paid staff and volunteers 

  • Ability to effectively communicate 

  • Requires background check and an FBI check

Compensation

  • Total compensation for this position is $5k (this includes: $1k per week of camp + $1k for planning week prior to the start of camp)
