Assistant Coach, River Experience Summer camp
About Us
The Cleveland Rowing Foundation (CRF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to support, facilitate and promote the sport of rowing and other recreational uses of the Cuyahoga River by partnering with member organizations and the community. CRF owns 4.5 acres of land on the Rivergate Peninsula, as well as 19,000 square foot and 6500 square feet buildings housing over 200 rowing shells. Composed of six Member Organizations, CRF serves over 1,500 high school, collegiate, and adult rowers.
JOB SUMMARY
Provide coaching support for the rowing portion of 4-week River Experience Summer Camp. Run in conjunction with Open Doors Academy (ODA) summer programming, camps include 2 sessions each day for middle school students from underserved communities to experience the sport of rowing. The camp will be held Monday through Thursday for four weeks during June and July.

Responsibilities
Prior to the start of the camp:

Work with the Director of Rowing & coxswain(s) to establish a daily itinerary both on and off the water.

Work with the Director of Rowing to recruit and manage volunteers as needed
During the camp:

Supervise all camp attendees and coxswain(s), maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all participants to learn and grow. Notifying the Director of Rowing immediately if there are observations of activities that do not support those activities.

Facilitate erg warm up sessions, on water warm ups, and learn to row drills

Working with the Director of Rowing to review proper boat and oar handling with camp attendees, including:

Working with the Director of Rowing to provide a Boathouse and Property tour with attendees.

Working with the Director of Rowing provided a Safety Review for attendees and ensure campers properly use PFDs.

Maintain all required equipment on the launch

Facilitate on land activities and educational programming when attendees are not able to be on the water.
Qualifications

Coaching experience, CQL certified or actively working towards
-
Completed SafeSport training
-
Experience teaching, coaching or working with youth from diverse backgrounds
-
Experience working with participants with different levels of comfort with water sports

Ability to effectively collaborate with partner organizations
-
Ability to effectively communicate

Requires background check and an FBI check
Compensation
-
Compensation is $25-$30/hr, dependent on experience (16 total days, 5 hours/day)
-
This position will be paid as a 1099 Contractor.
